Why Photography?

Life is precious, an endless carousel of beautiful moments. Even in the midst of hardships we find moments of love and kindness. We experience these moments, some so moving that we feel the need to stop what we are doing to try and soak it in, to make it last, to keep it for as long as possible. Eventually time moves forward and it feels like these memories slip through our fingers. So we find ways to try and prevent this, to stop time-if only for a moment-to keep our memories for as long as possible and remember as many details as we can. That is what I love so much about photography, its ability to stop time and preserve it in a single frame; to be experienced not only by us but by those we love and care about, by those who will come after us, by people we may never meet. We may not always know precisely how it feels to physically be in the moment of an image, but we can see the emotion and movements of the subjects, the colors and textures of the environment, and from that we create a potential story in our head. Isn’t that just magic?

That is what I want to do for you. I want to create magic, to pause time, and give you memories to hold onto.

  • My father was a high school coach for many-many years. One of the things he liked to do for his players each year was to put together a slideshow video of pictures from each game. In 2014 I took over this job for him. Prior to this I had very little experience with a camera besides, you know, pushing the button. I quickly became very interested in photography and it became more of a hobby for me. By the time I reached graduation it became a passion, and I knew I wanted to pursue it as a career, although I hadn’t a clue what that career would be.

I spent my first year of college at The University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne Indiana. While I enjoyed my time there I quickly realized it wasn’t the right fit for me; primarily because they only offered a minor in photography instead of a major. I visited Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis and knew it was what I was looking for, so I transferred at the end of my freshman year and graduated three years later.

During my time at Herron I was mostly focused on creating fine art photography working with analogue processes and landscapes. My senior year I stepped out of my comfort zone and applied for an internship with a wedding photographer based in Indianapolis; I wanted to do something completely different from what I had spent years doing. During my internship I accompanied my mentor as a second shooter to many different events, mostly weddings, with the occasional engagement, family, and senior session as well. I graduated in 2022 and have continued to work as a second shooter until recently when I decided to branch out on my own.

For a long time I struggled with my purpose, trying to figure out how I was supposed to use my gift and passion for photography. Being a more introverted person I never imagined that my work would move into the field of portraiture and lifestyle, but I dipped my toe in and knew that it is what God has been calling me to do. Faith is a key factor in my life, it's where my roots grow and what my foundation is built on. To not only witness the important life events of others, but to be a part of it by capturing beautiful life moments fills my heart and soul in ways I’ve not experienced. I am able to do something that I love everyday and share it with others and I couldn't be more grateful. I am glad you are here, and I can’t wait to use my gift to capture your beautiful moments.
